For many pets, the traditional experience of sitting in a kennel all day waiting for surgery can be deeply stressful. Unfamiliar smells, barking dogs, distressed cats, anxious noises from other animals, bright lights, and constant activity—often without their owner nearby—can heighten fear and anxiety even before treatment begins.
At Pawvet Clinic, this is exactly the experience we set out to change.
A forward-thinking approach to hospital care

We believe excellent veterinary care goes beyond medicine and surgery—it starts with how your pet feels from the moment they walk through the door.

The Wellness Ward is our innovative, out-of-the-box approach to hospitalisation, designed to reduce fear, minimise stress, and support better healing outcomes—without compromising clinical care.

This is veterinary care that looks at the world through your pet’s eyes.

Seeing the clinic from your pet’s perspective

For many pets, a traditional vet visit can feel overwhelming:

  • Loud noises and busy wards

  • Strong, unfamiliar smells

  • Bright lighting and constant activity

  • Separation from their owner

  • Handling by unfamiliar people

  • Painful Procedures

We asked a simple but powerful question:

What if hospital care felt calmer, safer, and more familiar?
The Wellness Ward was created as the answer.

From the first minute: a calmer, Fear-Free & Pain-Free journey

At Pawvet Clinic, we believe the experience your pet has before, during, and after treatment matters just as much as the treatment itself.

That’s why we focus on the entire journey, creating a calmer, kinder, and more thoughtful experience from the moment your pet arrives.

What this means for your pet

  • A quieter, more welcoming environment on arrival
Designed to reduce sensory overload and help pets settle more quickly.

  • Gentle, fear-free handling by trained staff
We work with your pet—not against them—using low-stress techniques and reading their body language at every step.

  • Minimal movement between rooms or wards
Fewer unfamiliar spaces mean less stress and more confidence for your pet.

  • Continuity of care
Your pet stays in one clinic, cared for by one trusted team—no transfers, no changing faces.

  • Thoughtful pacing
We allow time for pets to settle rather than rushing procedures whenever it’s safe to do so.

  • Pain-free procedures wherever possible
Local anaesthetic is used before blood tests or catheter placement to minimise discomfort.

  • Positive reinforcement throughout
Plenty of treats, praise, and reassurance to create positive associations and reduce fear.

This Fear-Free and pain-conscious approach helps pets feel safer, more cooperative, and calmer—supporting smoother examinations, better recovery, and more positive future visits.

At Pawvet Clinic, we don’t just treat conditions—we care for the whole experience. 🐾

This helps pets feel safer and more cooperative, making examinations, treatment, and recovery smoother and less traumatic.

What is the Wellness Ward?

The Wellness Ward is a dedicated recovery and comfort area for pets who need monitoring, treatment, or post-procedure rest—designed to feel less clinical and more comforting.

It is particularly helpful for pets who are:

  • Nervous or anxious in veterinary environments

  • Recovering after surgery or sedation

  • Staying in for tests, treatment, or observation

  • Sensitive to noise, bright lights, or busy ward areas

What makes our Wellness Ward different?

Unlike traditional hospital wards, our Wellness Ward is built around emotional wellbeing as well as medical care:

  • Fear-free, gentle handling and considerate nursing

  • Reduced noise levels to support rest and recovery

  • Softer lighting to lower stress

  • Comfortable bedding and blankets to improve relaxation

  • A calm, welcoming space designed for quiet healing

  • A squashy sofa so owners can sit with their pet when appropriate

Importantly, pets are not moved between hospitals or clinics. They remain in one familiar place, cared for by the same team throughout their stay, building trust and reassurance.

Time together: keeping owners and pets connected

Where it is safe and appropriate, we can arrange time for you to sit with your pet in the Wellness Ward. This can be especially beneficial for anxious pets or those missing home.

This depends on:

  • Your pet’s medical condition and stability

  • Infection control and patient safety

  • Whether your pet needs uninterrupted rest

  • The treatment and monitoring schedule

Our team will always guide you on what’s best for your pet’s recovery.

Overnight stays: calm, compassionate care

If your pet needs to stay overnight, they’ll receive the same gentle, fear-free care from our trained team.

Overnight care includes:

  • Regular nursing checks and monitoring as advised by the vet

  • Comfortable bedding in a calmer environment

  • Thoughtful handling to minimise stress and anxiety

Even when you’re not able to stay, your pet is never just “in a cage”—they are cared for as an individual.

 Why this approach matters

Lower stress is not just about comfort—it directly impacts recovery.
A calmer pet is more likely to:

  • Heal faster

  • Tolerate handling and treatment better

  • Feel less fearful during future visits

  • Build positive, long-term associations with the clinic

By recreating the pet experience, we deliver exceptional veterinary care while respecting your pet’s emotional wellbeing.

Is the Wellness Ward suitable for every pet?

Not always. Some pets need a different level of monitoring or specialist equipment. Your vet or nurse will always recommend the safest and most appropriate option for your pet.
